cycler 2018Help Name our New Bike Safety Mascot

Good Day Carmel Offers Prize to Winner

CARMEL, IN – The City of Carmel needs your help to name a new Bike Carmel mascot created to boost the awareness and marketability of our bicycle-friendly community. This new character will attend many public events and festivals to help focus attention on the importance of bike safety and all the wonderful amenities available to our bicycling community.

Bike Carmel is partnering with Rollfast Foundation, Inc., to create the mascot – described as a tan and brown dog with a cheerful smiling face and bushy long tail. The name we select needs to be simple, easily said and understood, have some emphasis or relationship to bicycling and not be in use elsewhere. It will be outfitted in a Bike Carmel performance t-shirt, bike shorts, bike gloves, helmet and shoes. Throughout the year, the mascot will make appearances at Bike Carmel rides, Carmel Clay Schools, CarmelFest, the Carmel Farmers Market and various events throughout the City of Carmel.

The City is accepting submissions for name recommendations today through 5 p.m. Thursday, May 24th, 2018. The winning submission will receive a $100 gift card to The Old Spaghetti Factory, courtesy of Good Day Carmel, the daily newsletter covering positive news in Carmel.

Local design firm, the Wilkinson Brothers, created the image of our furry new friend and is waiting for a name to finish the character’s shirt design.  Our deadline is fast approaching as we are trying to get our mascot ready for our summer events.

Rollfast Foundation is a local non-profit whose mission is to get people rolling – mobilizing people through the power of the bicycle. They are committed to bringing joy to the lives of children and opening the doors of opportunity for the youth in our communities and are working to eradicate the stigma of suicide and get people rolling in the effort to end suicide.

In addition to a name, we have also begun a search for the perfect group of “mascot helpers” to portray our mascot and assist our mascot at events. These individuals need to be very physically fit, able to withstand heat and other inclement weather, lift 50 pounds and be agile enough to move easily with the weight of the costume. Mascot assistants need to be comfortable engaging with the community and directing the mascot and event guests to ensure the safety of all.
