Mayor issues statement on the passing of Jack Badger

CARMEL, IN – Longtime Carmel resident and community volunteer Jack Badger passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Below is a statement from Mayor Jim Brainard.

“Growing up in a small town in northern Indiana, I can tell you that any community – no matter how big it gets – can only function with the help of dedicated citizens who treat their hometown as family. Jack Badger was one of those kinds of people … perhaps one of the greatest Carmel has ever seen. Whether you spent any time at the Carmel Farmer’s Market, a Carmel Dads Club soccer game or perhaps a Carmel High School sports event, you probably saw Jack doing what he did best … volunteering.

“A Carmel resident since 1968, Jack was known for always emitting a spirit of warmth, good cheer, positive attitude and a great love for our city. Perhaps he will be most remembered as a champion of selling the popular CarmelFest “Spark Buttons” which he helped produce – the proceeds of which have always gone to help the City put on a great fireworks display every July 4th. I have often said if I could bestow the honor “Mr. Carmel” on anyone, it would be Jack, who always said how proud he was to be a member of our community.

“Rest in peace, Jack. You will be missed!”
