City seeks to fill openings on Plan Commission,
Parks & Recreation boards
CARMEL, IN – The City of Carmel is seeking interested persons and nominations for appointments to two of our government boards – the Carmel Plan Commission and the Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation Board. These positions offer the opportunity for residents to take an active role in our community and government.
The Carmel Plan Commission helps manage the city's growth and development, as well as, helps the City Council develop and update City Ordinances, the Comprehensive Plan, the Thoroughfare Plan and other long-range plans for housing, transportation, neighborhood development, parks, commercial development and public facilities. Nine voting members serve on the Carmel Plan Commission. Terms are for 4 years.
The Plan Commission meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Chambers of City Hall. In addition each member of the Plan Commission, except the President, is a part of either the Commercial or Residential Committee. These committees meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Caucus rooms of City Hall.
The Carmel/Clay Board of Parks and Recreation (Park Board) was established in August 1991 through an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between the City of Carmel and Clay Township and serves as the policy-setting body and fiduciary guardian for Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation. In 2019, the Park Board will review and adopt the new Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which will guide future development and management of the nationally accredited and Gold Medal-winning park system through 2024. The Park Board consists of nine voting members appointed based on their interest in and knowledge of parks and recreation. The current opening is a Mayoral appointment for a 4-year term.
Regular meetings for the Park Board are on second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Monon Community Center, Multipurpose Room A. There are typically two to four additional meetings each year for topics ranging from general board training to planning input sessions.
