Adam Aasen was elected to the Carmel City Council in May 2019 and took office on Jan. 1, 2020.

Aasen was born in Indianapolis and graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington with degrees in both journalism and political science. He was was editor in chief of the Indiana Daily Student. He had internships in New York City, Las Vegas and Washington D.C. during his summers. After college, he moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he was an investigative journalist for the daily newspaper. He also covered crime and higher education while working at the Florida Times-Union.

After several years, he returned home in 2010 and opened Donatello’s Italian Restaurant in the Carmel Arts & Design District. After a few years, he also began writing for Current in Carmel. Working two jobs, he covered City Hall, attending city council meetings and interviewing multiple elected officials on a regular basis.

Aasen is a 2016 graduate of the Hamilton County Leadership Academy.

He’s a member of several organizations such as Carmel Rotary Club, OneZone and Hamilton County Young Republicans (HCYR). He’s served on board for organization such as Carmel Rotary, HCYR, the Carmel Education Foundation and Janus Developmental Services. He served on committees to serving CarmelFest, HAND Inc., the Heartland Film Festival and the Humane Society of Hamilton County. He previously served as a mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. He’s a member of Carmel Christian Church.

In 2019, he was named Volunteer of the Year by OneZone.

When Aasen isn’t working, he enjoys watching movies and he occasionally records movie review podcasts.

Adam’s wife Nicole is a CPA. They have two cats and two dogs and daughter named Madeline who was born December 2018.

Nicole is a lifelong Carmel resident and her mother is a retired Carmel High School teacher and her father is a retired firefighter. Adam’s parents are co-owners of Donatello’s with him.
