Xiangyang Delegation Traveling to Carmel for Sister City Signing Ceremony  

What: Signing ceremony for establishing a sister city relationship between Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, People’s Republic of China and the City of Carmel. This signing ceremony will officially begin the Sister City agreement between the two cities. There will also be a performance by the Carmel Chinese Lion Dance Team following the Ceremony.  

When:  Friday, June 29th
Signing Ceremony at 4:00 p.m.  
Chinese Lion Dance Team performance at 4:25 p.m.    

Where:  Carmel City Hall
Council Chambers, 2nd Floor
One Civic Square, Carmel, Indiana 46032  

Who: The public is invited and encouraged to attend this free event. Members of the Xiangyang delegation will include Ms. Ding Yalin, Deputy Mayor; Mr. Zhang Jiaqi, Deputy Director of the Department of Education; and Mr. Tan Yao, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs. Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard and other city officials will also be in attendance.  

Background:   Xiangyang and Carmel have been working on solidifying a Sister City agreement. This visit will provide the Xiangyang delegation with the opportunity to learn more about Carmel while participating in educational and business focused activities, as well as visiting the Arts & Design District. Mayor Brainard has invited Xiangyang General Secretary and Mayor to visit Carmel this fall.
