Numerous events and festivals are held in Carmel throughout the year. Some of the highlights include the following:


Art of Wine

Saturday in July from 5 – 10 p.m.

Location: Carmel Arts & Design District – area around Main and Range Line Road
Description: A treat for your senses; Enjoy a summer evening experiencing vintages al fresco at The Art of Wine. Guests 21 years of age and older can enjoy a variety of wines while also taking in the district’s galleries, shops and restaurants. Live entertainment enhances this event, which is a favorite of many.

Artomobilia

The art of the automobile is on display in Carmel's Arts & Design 
District during Artomobilia. Cars from all eras line the streets and galleries exhibit art with an auto theme.

PorchFest is a family-friendly event that is free and open to the public. Featured will be a variety of musical acts ranging from acoustic to electric, solo to ensemble from a wide variety of musical genres that will perform live on neighborhood porches.  All participants, including bands, homeowners and organizers, are comprised of volunteers from the Carmel and surrounding areas.

Mayor Jim Brainard says of the concept, “Carmel PorchFest is an excellent addition to our active events schedule. It highlights other lesser known streets in the district to show the great uptown neighborhood that comprises the Arts & Design District.”

Carmel Farmers Market

Farmers Market Time Lapse

Held Saturday mornings from 8 - 11:30 a.m., mid-May through the end of October at 5 Center Green, Carmel IN 46032 (At the corner of City Center Drive & S.W. 3rd Street, on the lawn of the Palladium.)

One of the City’s most popular events is the Carmel Farmers Market.  Neighbors enjoy socializing while strolling through the market to purchase fresh produce, baked and canned goods, flowers, and more from local vendors.  Live music also adds to the pleasant atmosphere of the market.  Firehouse cook-offs, a Veggie Art Contest, and cooking demonstrations are planned throughout the summer. Carmel Farmers Winter Market

Held every Saturday from mid-November 14 to mid-March from 9 a.m. to noon at Wilfong Pavilion in Founders' Park.

Featuring 21 vendors selling a cornucopia of locally produced foods such as herbs, vegetables, fruit, plants, meat, poultry, fish, honey, and wine. The Winter Farmers Market will be held in its new location at the indoor, heated Wilfong Pavilion in Founders’ Park, located at 116th Street and Hazel Dell.

Carmel on Canvas

Carmel on Canvas Promo 2015

Carmel on Canvas Plein Air Painting Event provides artists with 3 days of plein air painting, within the Carmel Arts & Design District. Early registration is $40 and registration the days of the event will be $50. We are awarding a total of $5,000 in awards with any sales going 100% to artists. Artists may paint Friday and Saturday and submit one framed work for judging at the Artist's Reception Saturday at the Indiana Design Center. The awards for this event will be $4,000, including $1,000 for Best of Show.

Sunday, we will follow with the QUICK PAINT Sunday for artists 14 and older with awards totalling $1,000. Registration for this event will be $15, payable Sunday at registration. The Carmel Artists Association will also assist with the student section for the Paint Out. Registration for that event will be free with awards announced at the registration.

Christkindlemarkt

The Carmel Christkindlmarkt is bringing the charm of a long standing European tradition to the heart of Carmel, Indiana. One of the earliest of these markets was the 16th century Christkindlmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany and the wonderful tradition has now spread worldwide. Guests will experience one of a kind, high quality, handmade gifts, Germanic inspired food, drink and ice skating. click here for more information

Holocaust -  Days of Remembrance

The City of Carmel’s Holocaust - Days of Remembrance Ceremony is held each year to remember and honor the victims of the Holocaust. This event will be held in the Tarkington Theater at The Center for the Performing Arts and includes a Civic Proclamation by Mayor Brainard and special guest speakers. Area schools and churches participate in the event featuring musical performances and speeches.

CarmelFest

Held annually on July 3rd and 4th  at Carmel Civic Square

This annual festival celebrating the 4th of July is the highlight of summer in Carmel. Festivities include a parade, live entertainment, food vendors and a spectacular fireworks display. Carmel International Arts Festival

Held annually in September

Location:  Main Street, Carmel Arts & Design District

The International Arts Festival held in September features a juried art exhibit of artists from around the world. Visitors of all ages also can enjoy concerts, dance performances and hands-on activities for children. The festival takes place in the Carmel Arts and Design District, an area dedicated to the arts in Old Town Carmel.  Visit www.carmelartsfestival.org for date and time information.

 

Holiday at Center Green (formally known as Holiday on the Square)

Held annually the Saturday before Thanksgiving

Location: Carmel Civic Square

Co-sponsored by the City of Carmel and the Carmel Arts Council, this event kicks off the holiday season in Carmel.  Holiday entertainment, Santa, his elves, and live reindeer provide a festive atmosphere for the City’s Holiday lighting ceremony on Civic Square.  The Mayor officiates this event and children can get their picture with Santa for a small fee.

Description: Elves, reindeer, carolers, carriage rides and the most unique Santa house in Indiana warm Carmel’s Arts & Design District this holiday season.

IU Health North Hospital Gallery Walk

Enjoy the fine art, merchant activities, entertainment, culture and shopping of the Carmel Arts and Design District every Second Saturday in 2011! Featuring new artists and exhibits in the galleries each month, guest appearances by international and local artists, and prizes, giveaways or special activities at select events. Memorial Day

The City of Carmel honors its fallen heroes at the Memorial Day Ceremony each year. The event is held the Friday before Memorial Day at 9 a.m. The event is held outside at the Veterans Memorial Plaza on Third Avenue SW, south of City Center Drive. Carmel's American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts perform a flag raising ceremony and join the mayor, other dignitaries and a keynote speaker from one of the various branches of the military at this event.

Summer Family Concert Series at the Gazebo

Held Wednesday evenings in June - September
Location: Carmel Civic Square
This free summer concert series offers weekly family entertainment on the lawn of Carmel Civic Square. Families are encouraged to bring picnic suppers and enjoy the outdoor music. Visit www.carmelgazeboconcerts.org for schedule information.

 

Veterans Day

The City of Carmel, Mayor Jim Brainard and members of local veterans organizations, work together to host an annual Veterans Day Ceremony, a community event in honor of our veterans. The ceremony pays tribute and thanks those who served our country in order for us to enjoy the freedoms that we have today. 

All area students are involved in this event through a poster and essay contest. The elementary grades K-5 participate though the poster contest and the middle and high school students write essays to enter into the contest. One student is selected from each grade level to attend the ceremony and present their poster or essay during the event.

Traditionally, the Carmel Veterans Day ceremony is held at noon the business day before Veterans Day, which allows our local veterans to participate in other regional ceremonies held on Veterans Day. This event is free and open to the public. No ticketing is required. click here for more details
