Board of Public Works meetings

The Board of Public Works' (BPW) major function is ensuring police and fire protection, street, and municipal water and sewer operations for the City of Carmel. In addition, the BPW approves and maintains all contractual agreements in which the City enters.

The Board of Public Works meets at 10 a.m. the first and third Wednesday of the month in the Council Chambers at Carmel City Hall. Items of business to be placed on the Board of Public Works agenda must be in the Clerk-Treasurer's Office by 4:00 p.m. the Wednesday prior to the Board meeting.

Cities with populations of 32,000, such as Carmel, are designated third class cities and are required by state law to have a Board of Public Works. The mayor is a member of the Board, and he appoints two other persons to serve with him. The fire chief, police chief and city engineer, who are appointed by the mayor, also work in conjunction with the members of the Board of Public Works.
