Kelvin Okamoto is a fourth generation Japanese-American with ancestors arriving in Hawaii and California as early as the late 1800’s. Kelvin was born in Palo Alto, CA but grew up outside of Philadelphia. Kelvin holds a Ph.D. Chemistry from Cornell University and a B.S. Chemistry from Stanford University, has his own consulting firm, Green Bottom Line, that focuses on sustainable materials and packaging development, commercialization, testing and certification, and is founder and CEO of Gen3Bio, a startup company focused on producing biobased chemicals and subsequent bioplastics from microalgae. Throughout Kelvin’s career, he has lived in places as diverse as Carlsbad, CA, Boston, MA and Evansville, IN. Kelvin and family have lived in Carmel since 2011. Through his varied experiences, Kelvin has experienced and grown to understand what blatant, institutional (corporate and legal), inherent and unconscious racism is; education often can overcome these issues through awareness.
