City of Carmel
Home MenuAssessment and Reports
Since Carmel adopted a climate resolution in 2017, the city has made significant strides in sustainability. These efforts have included conducting a Greenhouse Gas Inventory, putting in place a Climate Action Plan featuring 42 strategies aimed at reducing emissions, and a comprehensive Climate Risk and Vulnerabilities Assessment. Carmel remains at the forefront of climate action, fully dedicated to addressing climate challenges while ensuring the well-being of both current and future generations.
Greenhouse Gas Inventory
Access to a greenhouse gas emission inventory is crucial because it provides transparency and accountability in tracking and managing our impact on the environment. It allows the public, policymakers, and organizations to understand the sources and trends of emissions, make informed decisions, and take collective action to combat climate change effectively.
Climate Action Plan
Access to a Climate Action Plan is vital because it empowers individuals and communities to actively engage in addressing climate change. It provides a roadmap for coordinated efforts, encourages accountability, and fosters transparency in pursuing sustainable and resilient solutions. Involving the public means we harness collective action, knowledge, and support; essential aspects for successfully mitigating and adapting to the impacts of climate change faced by Carmel.
After adoption of the Climate Action Plan, the City of Carmel launched its Climate Action Plan (CAP) dashboard for Earth Day, April 22, 2023. The dashboard will make it easier for the public to monitor CAP progress in real time. The goal is to make sure the City's climate work is not only easily accessible by all citizens but can also serve as an inspiration for all to do their part.
Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment
Access to this document provides essential information about the specific climate-related challenges that Carmel faces. This transparency helps individuals and policymakers make informed decisions, prioritize resources, and develop targeted strategies for resilience. By engaging the public in understanding these risks, we foster collaboration and empower Carmel residents to proactively adapt to a changing climate, ultimately enhancing overall preparedness and safety.
