The Carmel Fire Department Hazardous Materials Response Team operates with 71 members who have completed an 80 hour hazardous materials technician training class. Some team members have gone on to further their training by attending the National Fire Academy chemistry of hazardous materials, hazardous materials site practice class, as well as Weapons of Mass Destruction class.

Haz-MatThe Carmel Fire Department has transportation of hazardous materials through it's jurisdiction at all hours of the day and night, because of this the department's Haz-Mat team has dedicated Sta. 345 as a tactical response house. The team is always looking for new and better training classes, equipment, detection devices, and personal protective equipment.

The Carmel Fire Department also is a member of the Hamilton County Hazardous Materials Task Force, which is a combined effort of all fire departments in Hamilton County to coordinate and train together for scenarios that are outside the capabilities of any one fire department.

The task force has two Haz-Mat response vehicles, one is maintained by Noblesville Fire Department and the other is maintained by the Carmel Fire Department. These vehicles are similar as they both carry much of the same equipment covering different areas of the county. The task force also responds to municipalities that don't have any Haz-Mat response resources.
