Carmel Fire Chaplains
Chaplain Doug Kizer |
|
The fire department chaplain provides support and encouragement to firefighters and support staff as well as the citizens they are called upon to help. The chaplain serves the department in ceremonies and events, as well as being available to respond with crisis care to those affected by a fire, accident, or medical emergency.
The role of chaplaincy is first and foremost one of presence and caring. Everything else that is done is built on that foundation. Chaplains are trained in immediate crisis intervention, as well as post crisis intervention such as critical incident stress management or debriefing. The chaplain may routinely connect with fire department members or even make contact when one of their own becomes sick or in need.
The chaplain is a friend to everyone regardless of their personal or religious beliefs.
Fire chaplains receive continuing education each year that is specific to the role they are called upon to serve.
