The City of Carmel has an ordinance that prohibits operating or parking a motor vehicle of any kind on any sidewalk, multi-use path, trail or bicycle lane. Employees and contractors of businesses are prohibited from parking vehicles on these paths regardless of what type of work is being conducted. If the work cannot be completed without temporarily parking on one of these facilities, a Multi-Use Path Permit must be obtained.

- Permit covers one motor vehicle identified in the application in a single location
- Duration of Permit: Permit expires when project is complete or seven (7) days, whichever comes first
- Permit provided must be prominently displayed on the vehicle that is parked on the pathway or sidewalk throughout the duration of the project
- Permit holders parked on a pathway or sidewalk must allow a minimum width of five (5) feet of the path to remain accessible
